Jonathan Clarkson is a multi-disciplinary design consultant. He graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee in 1995 with an honours degree in Interior and Environmental Design.

After spending time travelling through Australasia he settled in Edinburgh where he began his professional career. He has worked for both small and large landscape architecture and design offices, including Carter McGlynn and The Derek Lovejoy Partnership. Through these offices he has worked on a wide range of projects collaborating with a variety of design consultants including; transport consultants and graphic designers, architects and engineers. Project involvement has been from small scale detail design projects through to involvement in larger scale planning projects.

Jonathan has designed ranges of site specific street furniture for a number of locations including Edinburgh and Inverness city centres. Through his work he has developed an understanding and empathy for designing in the spaces between buildings, whether they be focal points in private gardens, or urban street furniture elements in our wider urban environments. He describes his understanding of this kind of work as, “a kind of urban acupuncture”.

His passion is people-centred contemporary design. A combination of sensitivity, and deep respect for simple natural materials and a sense of place, create the core ethos which drives his love of design.

Jonathan is a part-time lecturer in design and construction, for Edinburgh College of Art's (Heriot Watt University) Landscape Architecture Department. He has also presented lectures in design, at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art's (University of Dundee) Interior and Environmental Design Department, and for IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management Assessors) on Sustainable Timber Procurement & Certification Schemes.
